29.August, 2009
Nearly everyone has to go through constipation at least one time in their life, even our four-legged friend. There are a number of different causes behind the constipation, but most of them are harmless. They can also be treated or avoided all together. If your dogs constipation has got you down, then a little guide known as the “Veterinary Secrets Revealed Second Edition” could really help you out.
This guide seems to have all of the answers in it. We have personally downloaded it straight from the Internet and found lots of useful advice. In fact, the advice we are giving you right now on constipation is something that we have learnt from this book as well as other places.
If your dog is constipated, then there are a number of different factors. To begin with, your dog is a lot like a human as they need to have their adequate amount of exercise. If your dog is just sleeping around on the floor all day, then he or she may end up getting constipated.
When the pet does not move around much, you should lower the amount of food you give him or her. Speaking in food, the wrong type of dog food could cause constipation and other symptoms to come about.
You should choose the type of food that is suitable for your age, weight and dog. Another reason or a constipated dog could be the stress issues. If your dog lives outside, then the weather conditions could cause the pet to be constipated. You need to make sure your pet is stress free.
The pet does not like being alone. Dogs always like to be with people or other dogs. Before you change the dogs diet, you should speak with the animal doctor. The
Is Pet Insurance Worth It?
23.August, 2009
You cherish your pet and you want him to be healthy and happy for a long time to come. If he gets injured or sick, you expect to be able to take him to the vet for whatever he needs. Enter the insurance company telling you that you need to buy pet insurance. Let’s set aside the emotional considerations for a moment and look at the financial aspects of this decision.
Will you save money buy getting pet insurance? On average, the answer is no. Think about it. Insurance companies have to take in more in premiums than they pay out in claims in order to have enough to cover their overhead. They must charge each customer more than the average expense. This is so for all types of insurance. So why do people buy insurance at all?
The first key is about the average vet bill. You won’t have the average veterinary bill. You will either have an above average or below average bill. How much risk can you handle? Would you rather spend a predictable premium each month, or risk an unexpected expense? If you went to the vet and discovered that your cat or dog needed a $4,000 procedure, could you afford it? As more expensive rocedures become available for pets as well as humans, the potential vet bill goes up.
The second key is about unexpected vet bills. If you knew right now how much your pet’s veterinary expenses over his lifetime would be, you could set aside money each month to cover the expenses. There are two problems with this scenario. 1) You don’t know what your pet’s future medical bills will be. Two, would you really have the discipline to put the money aside?
The average price for low cost pet insurance is around $25 per month for a dog and $17 a month for a cat. Or if you want a policy with higher coverage and lower deductibles, you could opt for VIP pet insurance. It all goes back to how much you dislike risk.
So if you can handle any vet bill that comes your way, you should probably skip pet insurance. But if you’re not prepared for a nasty surprise and you’re not willing to lose your pet, it’s time to start that pet insurance comparison.

22.August, 2009
In this day and age, beauty really does matter and beauty often denotes health. The same thoughts can be applied to the gums. If you want beautiful gums, then they will obviously need to be healthy. How do you know if your gums are healthy? Well, really, that does not require a scientist - You should confirm with your dentist but here are the basics: You can determine this by examining them yourself. When you look at your gums in the mirror, do they look pink and not inflamed? Are your teeth clean and visually healthy? Do you make sure you get the plaque off of them every day? If so, then chances are, you have healthy gums. Here are some signs of unhealthy gums to watch out for.
Catching gum disease at an early stage is a great idea. At an early stage of gum disease, you will have tender, red and swollen gums. When you brush them with a toothbrush or floss them, they will bleed easily. You see, healthy gums never bleed when you regularly floss and brush them. At this stage, a HydroFloss might be helpful to you.
Generally speaking, gingivitis is not painful, so you may not notice any symptoms are present, which means you will not often catch it early for treatment. If you do not get this disease treated, then it is only going to progress forward. With gum disease often comes bad breath, try aktiv k-12 to defeat that.

Taking Care Of Hypoallergenic Dogs
07.August, 2009
Some dog breeds are more susceptible to allergies than others. This may be because of small nasal passages, allergic reactions to flea bites, irritable stomachs that make digesting food difficult, or they may be allergic to their own hair and dander. Dogs that have allergies include the following breeds: Bishon frise, terrier, retrievers, beagles, setters, and boxers. Almost all of the dogs we lnow have the potential to be allergic to something, however.
{By placing a blanket, toys and water into the crate, you will make the dog comfortable while you are away. You should not use the crate when punishing the dog or it will not want to go in it when you leave for the day. After training the dog, you will have to keep up the routine. This will give the dog structure and will also salvage your possessions. Keeping the dog in a crate when you are not at home will also reduce allergens.
Portuguese Water Dogs need to be groomed every two months or so. There are two patterns that most groomers follow, the retriever cut and the lion cut. The retriever cut means that the hair is cut evenly on the body. The lion cut leaves that front half of the dog’s body covered with hair, while hair on the hind legs is cut short. You should take the dog to have his hair groomed if you are not comfortable cutting it yourself.
If you are considering buying a PWD, you should be prepared to have constant companionship. These breeds need to be walked and they need to be entertained throughout the day. If you need to travel on vacation or for work, you should board the dog so it will not be lonely. Portuguese Water Dogs typically live between twelve and fifteen years.
Portuguese Water Dogs are easy going and get along with children and most adults. If you are looking for a breed that does not shed and will fit in with your family, then the PWD is the breed for you. While most Portuguese Water Dogs are black, some are white or a mix of both. Their hair is curly or wavy and similar to that of the standard poodle.}
When a dog is suffering from allergies, their mood may change. They may become irritable, lethargic, clingy, or angry. Discipline will not work when the dog is having allergy issues. The best way to combat this problem is to learn how to care for your dog once you have isolated the cause of the allergies. This may mean keeping a journal of your dog’s activities and symptoms that you can show the vet, who will be able to recommend treatment.
Some smaller breeds may have breathing issues as they age, there is little that can be done except to keep their sleeping area clean, vacuum often, and consider buying a hepa filter that will trap dust, particles, and other air pollutants that are in the air. While it is important that all dogs get their exercise, when it is cold outside, keep small breeds indoors and play with them. This will keep them from getting head colds, which could make breathing even worse.
If you notice that your dog has fleas or that they have been bitten by fleas, you should bathe your dog using a shampoo that will kill fleas and their eggs. You may need to rid your home of fleas as well so that reinfestation does not occur. Buy carpet spray or if the problem is too big, then you may have to call an exterminator. Once the fleas are gone, you should spray your dog every time the dog goes outside. This will prevent new attacks from occurring. If the dog has open bites or wounds from scratching, you will have to wait for them to heal before using a spray or shampoo on your dog.
Vomiting can occur if your dog is allergic to the food it receives. You should first visit the vet to see if the problem isn’t internal. They may recommend a new food for the dog. This can really stop the vomiting and diarrhea.
Dogs that are allergic to their own hair and dander have the worst allergies of all because there is little that can be done. You should make sure your dog is groomed regularly, brush your dog everyday to remove excess hair and dander, and bathe your dog once a month. Your vet may prescribe an anti-histamine if the allergies persist.
In case you do not believe you need pet health care insurance, perhaps you might like to hear a little true story to snap you out of this thought process of yours. Most pet owners do not realize just how much some pet surgeries can cost, well, until they have to pay for one that is. Did you know that some pet surgeries can actually cost more than some human surgeries, it’s true.
In fact, I have a friend who took their cat in for Cataract Eye Surgery, and when they got the bill of their precious cat it was higher than the cataract eye surgery that their mother had only six months the prior.
You can visit a trusted entity like the American Kennel Club or a pet car magazine. Your local reference librarian can help you compile a list of companies that are licensed to insure in your state. Put the list of providers on a sheet of paper and list the pluses and minuses of each plan to help you get some perspective on the myriad of choices available to you.
Once you have made the comparisons, listened to the advice of your vet and chosen a company you can turn your attention to which policy will be the best for you and your dog. Dog health insurance pet plans can vary widely from company to company.
So you weigh the options. The family dog health against your wallet and see where your bottom line comes out. Americans are great gamblers and this decision is a gamble there is no doubt about it. Animals are generally fairly self-sufficient and as a rule don’t manage to have anything that can’t be handled well by rest and normal Mother Nature. However as we know and have seen the world is far more polluted and full of carcinogens today than it was even a few short years ago. If your dog is an indoor only pet, there is certainly less chance of strange things happening but if he or she is out of doors a lot there are more things out there in the “wild” than you can imagine that can cause serious harm to your pet.
You do not want your veterinarian who cares for your pet to get stiffed. It makes sense to take your pet’s medical care and make it a monthly cost, rather than waiting for a huge emergency surgery that could set you back $1,000s of dollars. Please think on this, it’s serious, it’s about your pet.
