Am I paying for bad drivers?

The short answer is no.

The long answer or explanation is that insurance companies group similar drivers with similar driving records and similar risks together and they pay about the same rates. If you're a good driver your rates will be lower than someone who has 2 tickets and 1 accident on their driving record.

Or at least they should be. The auto insurance industry is very competitive and insurance companies have to keep their rates competitive or they will lose business.

If insurance companies did not keep good drivers rates low then they would jump ship and go to a competitor who rewards them for having a good driving record.

The insurance would go broke because they would only have bad drivers who file a lot of claims and cost the company alot of money.

If you feel your rates are high with your current insurance company, don't be afraid to call other insurance companies or get a quote online from other companies and see if you can save some money.
